About

First established in 2015, the Indonesian Film Festival (IFF) in The Netherlands is the most prominent celebration of Indonesian cinema only in The Netherlands. The Indonesian Film Festival (IFF) in The Netherlands is a non-profit event in collaboration of The Indonesian Embassy in The Hague. IFF-NL aims to promote the appreciation of Indonesian culture in The Netherlands, the Indonesian-Netherlands connection, as well raising international awareness of the development of Indonesian film culture.

Every year the Indonesian Embassy in The Hague will choose a different theme.

The Indonesian Film Festival is also mentioned in the most recent edition of “Festival Atlas 2016” (Harry van Vliet). The Festival Atlas provides an overview and analysis of the landscape of film, food and music festivals in the Netherlands in 2016.

In 2017 the Indonesian Film Festival (IFF) is transformed to the ASEAN FILM FESTIVAL (AFF2017) in The Netherlands because the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is celebrating its year-round 50th Anniversary from 8 August 2017 to 08 August 2018.

In conjunction with this, ASEAN Embassies in The Hague, namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam are undertaking a series of commemorative events primarily design to promote ASEAN awareness among Dutch stakeholders, including the local film industry, film enthusiasts, and movie goers.

In this regards, the ASEAN FILM FESTIVAL will take place on 8, 9, and 10 December 2017 in Kinepolis Jaarbuers, Utrecht. The Festival features 10 (ten) films of two each from the above Embassies.

The two Indonesian Films during this festival are: Lasker Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops) and Pendekar Tongkat Emas (The Golden Cane Warrior). More information you can find at: http://indonesia.nl/aff2017/

Target audience

Almost everyone in the Netherlands has “something” with Indonesia. 2.16 percent of the Dutch population are Indonesians of the first/ second or third generation (source: cbs.nl). In addition, there are many Dutch people with Indonesian roots, also called “Indo’s”. There is even a Dutch-Indonesian community. Other than that, many Dutch or non-Indonesian people living in the Netherlands are interested in Indonesia.

The purpose of the Indonesian Film Festival (IFF) in the Netherlands is to bring the Indonesian community together, to reach a wider audience and to attract the attention of anyone who has “something with Indonesia”.
